I established Crystal Springs Consulting, Inc. in 2001 to help producers and companies connect with consumers seeking authentic organic, sustainable, and natural food products. My commitment to the principles of authenticity stretch back more than 30 years.
During that time, I have established a national reputation for my expertise and commitment to working with farmers and ranchers to develop production and marketing systems that connected growers with customers. My experience is rooted in agriculture, alternative livestock marketing, natural food entrepreneurship, and regulatory affairs. My tool kit includes entrepreneurial creativity, business development experience, communications, and a deep understanding of the regulatory process needed to bring new products to the marketplace.
Along with two other entrepreneurs, I co-founded the Pet Promise brand of natural pet food in 2003, and oversaw the production protocols and sourcing system that helped it become the No. 1 pet food brand in the natural channel within four years. As part-time director of the National Bison Association, I have helped establish bison meat as the fastest growing sector in the retail meat case.
In 2001, then Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman appointed me to the USDA National Organic Standards Board. I served as the chair of the board during the periods in which the National Organic Standards were implemented. In 2013, I played a key role in winning approval from the USDA and the FDA for the use of the Non GMO Project Verified label on meat, poultry and dairy products. During the past decade, I have assisted producers in establishing new marketing cooperatives, guided companies in obtaining organic certification, and worked with other companies to establish sound, audit-based protocols for verifying the claims they make to their customers.
Farm-to-Table is a popular buzzword in today's food business. I help companies make that more than an empty claim.
